About Me
I’m an illustrator and artist best known for my award-winning collaborations with the writer Guy Bass. Our iconic, much-loved ’Stitch Head’ series was published between 2011-2016. We are currently in the process of adapting our classic Stitch Head books into graphic novels, the first of which was published in February 2024, the second of which came out in May 2025, and the third is due for publication in 2026. Stitch Head has also been made into a feature length animated film, which premiered at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The debut book of our ’Dinkin Dings & The Frightening Things’ series (2008-2010), won a Blue Peter book award, and our ’Skeleton Keys’ series (2019-2021) has also won awards and acclaim.
With the late, great Marcus Sedgwick, I co-created ‘The Raven Mysteries’ (2009-2011) series, and the ‘Elf Girl and Raven Boy’ series (2012-2015).
I’m also the illustrator of many books by authors as diverse and renowned as Martin Howard and Kelly Van Kempen, Kris Humphrey, Matt Haig, Steve Cole, Francesca Simon, Charles Dickens & Robert Louis Stevenson, amongst others. The books I have illustrated have been translated into many languages, and, hearteningly for me as a young reader raised in a family that absolutely loved our local town library, they are consistently very popular in libraries across the UK.
Before moving my focus to children’s book illustration in 2008, I worked in animation in London for over ten years. The short animated film which I co-created with my colleague Emma Burch during that time, ‘Being Bradford Dillman’, won sixteen awards.
Prior to that, I spent most of my time in large attic rooms high above Manchester and London streets, drawing late into the evenings, when the outside world was quiet, imagining how excellent it would be to be a children’s book illustrator, drawing late into the evenings, when the outside world was quiet. It turns out that it’s just as wonderful as I hoped it would be.
I now live in the west of Kent with my family. When not working on children’s books, I work with SEN students exploring artistic creativity in a therapeutic setting.
